Drew's boss and his family took us to Costco this past Saturday. It is about an hour away and would be very difficult for us to try to visit without a car. So it worked out perfectly that we have a Costco membership and they have a car.
A trip to Costco is always a big deal when in Japan. The Costco Kirklands brand is the same as back home which allows us to get some American goods. Everything else in the store has more of a Japanese spin to it. For example, the instant chicken noodle soup contains ramen noodles. It was very hard for us to make our purchase decisions, but we came away with several goodies.
Raisins, frozen burritos, sausages, and a bag of rolls. The bag of rolls started out much larger than this, but this picture was taken a few days after our Costco trip. The majority of these purchases were made to try to fatten up Drew. He has lost about 9 lbs. since arriving in Japan and has been complaining about wasting away. We were able to enjoy a huge slice of American pizza in the Costco cafe to give him a jump start with the weight gain. He has proudly gained 2 lbs. since that day.
For dinner, Drew convinced me to try Coco Curry House. Japanese and Indian curry have different flavors and I remember not caring for the Japanese curry when I tried it a few years ago. Maybe it was just the restaurant that I had gotten it from because this curry was actually pretty good. I got the vegetable curry and Drew gave me a couple pieces of his pork. You then mix it all up and enjoy.
